Willowbend's Practice Facility offers an oversized driving range with grass hitting area, and six targets, two sand bunker practice areas, a large putting green, and a separate chipping area with additional putting surface as well as several types of grass to practice all types of lies.
Featuring NE PGA Teaching Pro of the Year, Danny Caverly, Willowbend offers instruction for all skill levels and ages. We offer private instruction, clinics, and even day camp for young golfers.
Willowbend is proud and excited to welcome Rick Johnson as new Head Golf Professional. Rick worked at the Hyannisport Club for the past 32 years. The first 31 as its Head Golf Professional and one year as Director of Golf. Prior to joining the Hyannisport Club in 1980 Rick was an Assistant Professional for three years at Pinebrook Country Club in Weston, Mass. He also served as an Assistant Pro at Framingham Country Club and the Weston Golf Club. He also spent time in Florida where he worked at The Yacht and Country Club in Stuart, Florida and Frenchman’s Creek Country Club in Juno Beach, Florida.
Rick has served every aspect of the Cape Cod Chapter of the New England PGA from President, Tournament Chairman and Treasurer over his time on the Cape. He was a term Vice President representing the Cape Cod Chapter on the Board of the New England PGA. He was presented in 1995 with the New England PGA’s award as Private Club Merchandiser of the Year and in 2007 was honored to be selected as the New England PGA’s Golf Professional of the Year.
Rick was a 7 year member of the Town of Barnstable’s Advisory Golf Committee, 1985-1992, which was instrumental in the planning and development of the Old Barnstable Fairgrounds Golf Course.
Rick's wife of 25 years is Ellye Johnson and she is a 5th grade teacher in the Town of Yarmouth. They have a son David who’s 22 and daughter Hailey who’s 16.
Danny has been a PGA Member since 1982 and has held prestigious Head Golf Professional positions in New England and Florida. Danny’s teaching career spans thirty-one years with thousands of private and group lessons given. He has honed his teaching skills with some of the finest instructors in the country including the renowned Craig Shankland.
Danny continues to improve his teaching skills as evidenced by his recently achieving the recognition as a PGA “Certified” Instructor. Of the twenty-eight thousand PGA professionals, Danny is one of only one-hundred and sixty five to achieve this level of excellence. He was also recognized by his peers as the “Teacher of the Year” by the Cape Cod Chapter of the PGA.
Danny continues to work on his own game in the winters where he resides in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. As a player, he has twice finished fourth on the Vermont PGA Chapter’s Player of the Year award. He proudly sports a competitive low round of 63.
